Louisa had been a little weird at both the cabin and at home; difficulty settling down which Dee noticed (it bugged her especially at the cabin). Taking her outside seemed to help. Because of the painters here for weeks, I finally got her in the habit of peeing on the leash. I should have realized that that was also part of the “weird”, I guess.
One evening at the end of June I took her on the leash and got her out on the road. We didn’t go too far, up to the speed limit sign on Miller Pond Rd and back. We stopped to look at the pond, of course, because summer light over the hills reflects off of it. She was good on the walk but VERY pully both ways.
When we got home, all seemed totally normal, let her off the leash and she went into the back yard.
Next day, she was off in the woods and wouldn’t come back when called. The morning after Dee told me the same thing happened. I decided to let her off leash and followed her into the woods. After a small amount of investigation she found a fawn curled up under the ferns about 10 feet from the field in the woods near our house. Kind of strange, we had never seen that before; besides the field was unmowed at the time and would have seemed much safer. Anyway, I took her back and she settled down very happily for the rest of the day…almost like she needed me to see it and hand the “problem” to me.
