Union Village Dam

Last week Dee and I took a walk up the paved road from Academy Rd in Thetford to the top of the Union Village Dam area (we didn’t go across the dam). It was Dee’s idea, she wanted to see what was there.

It turned out to be really interesting. It’s a pretty steep hill, but since it’s paved and closed to traffic after Labor Day, quite safe. They have a little picnic and children’s play area at the bottom, and some picnic tables with charcoal grills at the top. Great views from up there but nothing unsafe.

We passed a young couple who looked at us the way we used to look at older couples. I was both a little miffed (“I’m not that old yet!”) but pleased, as we always hoped to be that couple when we were older. Dee was walking on my arm — I’m better going uphill than she is — and they clearly thought it was very cute.
