First long walk of the year

It has been very difficult getting a lot of walking in this winter. January was very cold; February warmed up but became prematurely muddy; March has been pretty normal but extraordinarily muddy. The snow in the back was very slick and icy, too dangerous to march around on but not good for snowshoes.

Yesterday we visited Meg at the cabin and we took the long route around the lower lake. I admit I was tired by the end but it was good to chat with Pete for a while and have a talk with Meg as the two of us slowed down (she had Gus in a pack in front of her, very cute and warm). The weather was fine, about 45 degrees, and the walk was pretty safe as most of it was on paved roads. It’s a solid 2 miles I think, based on step count of well over 4000.

There’s a big new house down “Killer Hill” towards the beaches. It’s really overdone in a big way. I don’t think they’re going to like how many people are looking into their gorgeous bay windows every day all summer…but it’s hard to know that up front. All the improvements at the cabin are a big positive now that the snow is leaving, and Meg even had some bulbs coming up.
