Dee got a burst of hiking desire this week when the weather turned cooler. On Wednesday we went up Poor Farm Rd, all the way up to the top near the south bend. The homeowners were there and all looked very good, but the road was really washed out and would not have been passable for a regular car.
But the big deal came Friday when we hiked up to Podunk Pond in the wildlife management area. It’s at least a mile and a half uphill all the way from the corner of Pennock and Maple Hill rd. So much had changed since we were last on that road. A landowner posted the first quarter mile or so, and was running sugar sap lines along the road. The land to the right was cleared for a long way as well.
It was hard to find the turn off, we kept thinking it was a little path. We were going to give up but I got a burst of energy and zipped up the hill and found the turn to the path down to the pond. There wasn’t anyone there at the time, but there were tracks and someone had dragged a big metal canoe down there! The pond is so small, I wonder who…might have been someone with kids. Late August ponds are not pretty, but this one looked ok on camera.
We were pretty shaky by the time we got back, but we did see a huge foundation that we’ll explore next time we’re up there.
