Last walk in Dover was pretty strange. The house was semi-packed (you always think it’s more ready than it is, until you start loading the truck) and we had eaten. It was after DST, so there was still some light in the sky as it was clearing after a day of rain/snow. I decided to take a walk around the block just to see the place one last time.
I set out across the street and made a right, but saw a little family playing in the street. I didn’t need to, but I diverted around them and went out to Central Ave. I walked past Lebanon to Go and they had a new hopeful sign that they’d be open in mid-April. Perhaps they’re getting some luck, finally; “to go” is in vogue now. That cheered me up, so I headed up towards New York Ave.
There were no cars on the road as I turned on to NY avenue, and I walked down the road rather than the sidewalk since people had left recycling bins out and we weren’t sure of the transmission vectors at that point. I went all the way down to Broadway, seeing that Red’s Shoe Barn (which was still open at the time) was so empty. We always remarked about how busy Red’s was, 6 days a week. But no one was out shopping for shoes that night.
I got home and Dee & Meg were still at it, putting things into boxes. The next day we packed the truck and drove. We did have to go back on the weekend in the car, but had no time for walks.
