Boy, am I glad I got a shingles vaccine before the transplant. Because I seem to have gotten it anyway. It’s only a rash on my left side (gross pictures not posted, you’re welcome) but it’s made my skin sensitive all over my left side. My left arm is bad, but the worst is the top of my thigh. It feels like a raw scrape every time I touch it or cloth rubs it. Dr. Schwarz says if I hadn’t had the vaccine, I would have been in the ER within a day, and I believe him. This sucks out loud.
Which brings me to “walks”. OMG. Loose pants, tight pants, doesn’t matter. Every step is somewhere between “Oof” and “Damn!”. I’ve started limping to help it, putting my hand in my pocket to keep the pants from rubbing, anything. I am listing towards the left and falling off balance. It doesn’t help that there are joint aches with this this too. My knees are bad.
My daily steps are down by half; I’ve been staying home all morning and only going to work at 2-3pm for meetings. But strangely enough, snowshoeing didn’t hurt at all. I did dog paths and ran out of energy but the leg was fine. Weird. I’m going out again today to finish the job (10th day of Shingles, starting to feel a little better.)
Snowshoeing dog paths is the subject of a full post. When I do it, I’ll make a link.
