Dover Stairs

There’s an old set of stairs in the Dover office that has a combination of big steps and some winding staircases. It’s 85 steps from the ground to the top. The elevator was broken several times this year and I had to climb up the stairs. It was ugly, every time. Some days I was so winded that it made me feel poorly for hours.

The new staircase in the center lobby is totally modern, after the city inspector condemned the original one. It has 97 steps from bottom to top. For some reason, walking those steps makes me slightly out of breath but has nowhere near the exhaustion level of the 85 step trek. I can’t think why this would be. It’s the same vertical distance, and more steps. I guess the lower height of the individual steps, along with the uniformity, is just easier on my legs.

I will walk the stairs a few times a week, just to build up strength.
